Cleaning and Prevention
There are several different types of dental cleaning: routine cleaning, deep cleaning, and periodontal maintenance cleaning.
A routine cleaning is performed on patients every six months, the gums are healthy, and pink in color.
A deep cleaning is performed when a patient has not had a regular professional cleaning every six months. The gums are red in color, can bleed when brushing or flossing, and there is sometimes an odor.
Once the deep cleaning is performed, it is necessary to have follow-up periodontal cleanings. Dr. Burt will evaluate your gum health and explain which type of cleaning will be best for you.
What are some preventative measures I can take?

Use a soft-bristled toothbrush after each meal
Floss daily before bedtime
